Founded in 1948, CAMH is one of the oldest institutions of its kind in the United States. The following exhibition history has been compiled from a variety of sources, including exhibition announcements, catalogues, newspaper articles, reviews, and interviews. CAMH is in the process of working to list all exhibitions dating back to 1948. If there is an exhibition you are interested in and cannot find it listed here, please contact us.

The decade summaries include the names and dates of the exhibitions for that decade. Each detailed entry is composed of the following information when known: exhibition title, participating artists (when not indicated by exhibition title), dates of the exhibition, where it was presented, the individual and/or institution responsible for its organization, exhibition tour information (when applicable), and the accompanying publication with its contents noted, if published by the Contemporary Arts Association/Museum.

The Museum is continually working to expand its archives and would welcome any materials or information that would add to this history. Please contact us.

CAMH has a number of its original publications digitally reproduced on Issuu.com. This online library is a rich resource for academic research and study with curatorial essays, artist interviews, and images that describe the art-world's ever-changing landscape through the CAMH's perspective. You can subscribe to our account on Issuu to be alerted when new publications are added to our library.  CAMH's publications are supported by a grant from The Brown Foundation, Inc.

Research Requests
The Museum does archive documents related to its exhibition and programming history in an off-site location. If an artist or a work of art has been presented in an exhibition, we can conduct preliminary and limited research regarding when an artist was exhibited. To determine any additional information or more detailed information will require advanced notification.

AN ORAL HISTORY OF CAMH

Featuring interviews with some of CAMH's most notable personalities, patrons, and supporters, these videos document the oral history of CAMH through the personal narratives of the women who became involved with the Museum early in our history and helped set the tone for our ambitions today. Join Sissy Kempner, Carol Ballard, Nancy Allen, and Marilyn Oshman as they recreate scenes of CAMH's lively history and remember why they fell in love with CAMH.
